APFCU Automatic PFC Unit

SERIES FEATURES

Our Automatic Power Factor Correction Units (APFCU) are custom designed for 208V, 480V, and 600V applications. Designed with higher-rated capacitors for longer life expectancy, these units automatically maintain target power factor while minimizing inrush with soft-switching contactors. To ensure even wear on the capacitors, our units use circular-switched steps.

Our APFCU is complete with IEC rated contactors, HRC fusing, a digital microprocessor controller, a split core current transformer, and inrush current limiters. The standard ventilation kit included is for a maximum ambient temperature of 35°C (95°F).

The units are enclosed in a NEMA 1 ASA 61 grey enclosure by default, with the options of NEMA types 2, 12, 3, 3R, 4, and X versions. Custom paint options and custom enclosures for dimension restrictions are also available. Other available options include blown fuse indicators, iron core 3-phase reactors for harmonic contaminated environments, and a disconnect device.

Specifications may be seen in APFCU Specs, and more detailed information may be found in APFCU Brochure.

Series Comparison: APFCU VS RTAPFCU

We recommend using automatic units in place of static units above 40kVAr if the capacitor bank is not switched with a motor, to protect equipment from voltage rise in low load conditions.

APFCU uses mechanical switching with IEC rated, soft-switching contactors to minimize inrush. Real-time APFCU uses electronic switching, and switches at zero crossing for zero inrush. Electronic switching allows for switching times to be as fast as 60 times per second.

In most cases a Real-time unit is not required, and an automatic unit is suitable.

Both units are custom made, and maintain their target power factor. Warning labels are included per C.E.C. standards.
