SERIES FEATURES
The EDF series for 480V and 600V applications prevents harmonic distortion using a dual core filtering system. Our iron core 3-phase harmonic filtering reactors are complete with a thermostat, and our IEC rated contactors are complete with HRC fusing and a 120V AC coil.
All of our enclosures are galvanized, and are available in NEMA types 1, 2, 12, 3, 3R, 4, and X versions. Enclosures come in wall mount, panel mount, or free standing designs with floor mount brackets available on request. Our standard enclosure is a free standing galvanized type 1.
For more detailed information, check out the EDF Specification Sheet, and the EDF Brochure.
- Provides power factor correction
- Prevent harmonic distortion generated by your VSDs from damaging your line-up
- Meets IEEE-519
- Our dual core harmonic filtering system allows operation throughout the entire drive speed range without risk of damage to itself or the drive
- Our dual core harmonic filtering system maintains proper tuning at all times
- Applications for 208V, 240V, 480V, and 600V systems
Series Comparison: EDF vs FAPFCU vs AHF
EDFs are not a systems solution like our Filtered Auto PFC Units or our Active Harmonic Filters are; they are designed for preventing harmonic distortion on a single Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). When there is one or two VFDs in a system, we recommend EDFs for harmonic filtering. We recommend our Active Harmonic Filters when there is more than one or two VDFs, as they will filter harmonics across the system. Our FAPFCUs are filtered to protect the unit itself from the harmonics in a system – not to provide system filtration. The FAPFCUs are recommended for PFC needs in harmonic contaminated systems.
EDFs and are more robust, easier to set up and troubleshoot, and filter above the 50th harmonic, but cannot load balance.
Both EDFs and APFCUs can operate without line reactors on VFDs and operate with downstream passive filters or capacitors.
APFCUs have replacement parts more readily available and reduce utility side harmonics, but cannot load balance.
AHFs load balance, are smaller and lighter, reduce harmonic reduction on the load side of the main transformer, have the best reaction time to load changes, are field expandable, and have 3-phase power metering. AHFs cannot operate without line reactors on VFDs or operate with downstream passive filters or capacitors.
